Pluggin Issues on confluence perfomance

What are the contributions of plugins in Confluence, as some of them are negatively affecting the system performance? How do plugins impact performance, and what alternative options are available if I want to improve the speed of my Confluence instance?

nb: Is there another option if i get rid of pluggin ?

You have to opt-in (manually add) plugins/apps. Go to 'Manage apps' to uninstall third party apps.

Like on your Android/iPhone some features cannot be removed.

Example there are a lot of macros by default that are built by Atlassian. Then many Confluence apps you install add more macros. Yet it is hard to tell in the list of macros which are by Atlassian and which are by 3rd party vendors.

You could uninstall an app and lose access to macros you thought were native if you are not careful.

re: performance

We have an app called Numbered Headings by Easy Apps, it loads in the menu.

If you have a lot of apps that need to be loaded this can slow down page loading. The big one is if a user created the pages with a lot of macros it will take longer to load a page. Some macros are 'power hogs', most load well.

It isn't simply the number of apps you have installed. We have another app called Space Content Manager not part of a page, meaning it doesn't impact page load. As you can see the access point to it is in the side menu on a page, it opens in its own 'window'.

Typically, the performance issue will surface as the instance gets bigger with more data.

Some of the possible causes:

• incorrect/unexpected scenarios
  • 5000 user stories under 1 Epic
  • 2000 comments under 1 Confluence
• design that does not scale well with larger set of data
  • e.g. an automation rule to update all the open issues
• very big search index
  • the time to search is correlated with the amount of data searchable
• super large attachments
• automation/integrations
  • there might be automation rules running amok or external systems sending thousands  of REST API calls (to pull data/create content)
• incompatibility across plugins
  • Individually each app works ok, but they cause issues with each other
• CPU intensive jobs
  • e.g. PDF space exports can be intensive for very large spaces

The best way to improve the speed is to identify the root cause and treat the problem accordingly.

• If it is a plugin related issue, you can try to disable the plugin to isolate the problem
• If it is a data triggered issue, you can try to archive the data
