🔥 New feature drop: You don't want to miss this!

The Confluence database team has been hard at work and we have some really exciting news!

We are thrilled to announce 3 huge product updates…

  1. 🗣️ Inline database comments

  2. 👥 User mentions with notifications

  3. 📥 Revamped import flow

🗣️ Inline database comments

We’ve now added in the ability to write comments on your database - tag your co-workers, have a discussion, leave them feedback on their database! You can leave comments on specific database cells (and within card/board entries) as well as react or reply to comments already on the database.

There are three ways to leave a comment in a database

  1. Right click on a database cell, then select ‘Comment’ from the contextual menu

  2. Hover over a database cell, then select the ‘Add’ icon on the right hand side of the cell

  3. Right click on a database cell, then use the keyboard shortcut ‘command + option + c’

👥 User mentions with notifications

Today, users can enable notifications for user mentions so that users can receive both in-app and email notifications. This ensures that your team members are promptly informed and can participate in discussions and updates, fostering a more collaborative environment.

  1. Navigate to Field settings for the ‘@ User' field type

  2. Toggle ‘Send notification to mentioned user’ on

Note: Ensure your database permissions are set correctly so that mentioned users are able to access your database!

📥 Revamped CSV import

We released the first milestone out of two in revamping our CSV import experience. This milestone included a tonne of bug fixes when importing a CSV into a blank database as well as auto-detection of field types, to minimise user effort when importing CSVs.

To try out the new experience

  1. Click the three dot menu in the top right hand corner of your database

  2. Select ‘Templates and import’

  3. Navigate to ’Import'

  4. Select the CSV button

In milestone two we’ll be improving the import flow when adding content to a database with existing data, helping users easily map new data to existing fields.

We hope you enjoy these updates.

As always, we'd love to hear any feedback, thoughts or questions!

Cheers,

Christina Ristevski | Confluence databases product manager

These are great!

I hope non-smart hyperlinks or labels or tags for non-Smartlink URLs are on the roadmap, because that's my #1 need right now.

I just used the new import with a very complex CSV (networking info) and am very, very pleased with how well the new import feature translated the data.

Would it be possible to, in the future, allow a determination of the target data type like in Jira? That is, this source column becomes a tag column in the destination using the existing data as tags, or select that it stays text or whatever?

Great features! I'm not seeing them in our Database though, when will these be rolled out?

Hi @Anne Saunders , you should be able to see non-smart hyperlinks by toggling on 'Show full URL' in the Smart Link field settings. Could you explain more about labels/tags for non-Smart Link URLs?

@Jason Hills That is awesome to hear! Yes that is exactly what we're working on right now :)

@Steven Slings if you aren't seeing these features yet you might be on Release Tracks. If this is the case they will likely be rolled out in the next bundle.

@Christina Ristevski  I'd like to 'alias' a full url with text to create a 'normal' hyperlink. Full URLs are great, but they aren't human readable, and SmartLinks don't work with Harvest or HubSpot -

In a Confluence page, I can alias a URL to be a hyperlink however I like.

@Christina Ristevski still not seeing these updates, how can I see when this is planned to roll out? (assuming we are on Release Tracks)

@Christina Ristevski LOVE inline DB comments! A couple of feedback points:

  1. Can you please make it easier to:
    • Identify how many comments are open against a specific Database. Like a count of open comments displayed somewhere visible. If this is available somewhere I'm really struggling to find it.
    • Locate the open comments quickly. Comparing against Google Sheets as an example: it'd be great if I could click on the count of open comments and then be redirected to the specific row where each comment lives. So that I don't have to scan throw all my rows to find open comments.
  2. Related to user mentions with notifications: I would prefer the default behaviour for a person column to be that "Send notification to mentioned user" are off (to avoid inadvertently bombarding people with notifications)

Thanks for improving Confluence DBs, love the product!

PS: are frozen columns coming soon?? :)
