Confluence for Marketing Teams - Ideation and Brainstorming

Confluence isn't just for tech teams! While it's a go-to for many engineering and support departments, Confluence is a surprisingly powerful tool for marketing teams, especially during those crucial ideation and planning stages.

Marketing success hinges on solid planning. But juggling ideas across different tools (*cough* PowerPoint *cough*) can lead to scattered information and wasted time. Having a single, dedicated, source of truth makes it substantially easier to come up with and manage ideas for your marketing plans.

Confluence also offers a wide range of tools to help with this:

  • Whiteboards - Personally I use them a lot for process mapping, but they're also great for visual ideation, mind mapping and brainstorming. Like pages they also allow for real-time collaboration with folks all around the world making it easy for remote teams to connect.
  • Pages - Pages are the stereotypical Confluence content (or at least what most people think of when they think of Confluence...) and they offer a way to share knowledge, along with some other features with macros that can help make things more visually pleasing, or incorporate other information (like Jira tickets).
  • Live docs - Similar to pages these allow you to share knowledge, however, instead of requiring you to publish them (and forgetting about the ten thousand drafts you've got...) they're instantly available for others to view. This helps real-time brainstorming by instantly sharing ideas so others can contribute.

If you've got Atlassian Intelligence (cloud premium/enterprise) you can also convert your whiteboards into pages via the summarize option. This can be incredibly helpful during brainstorming as it lets teams translate visual information into text. I find this is easier to share with folks who weren't in the planning session.

We went over all this (and more!) in our session - check out the link below for it, and this link for a longer post.
