Did you know you can embed playable videos directly into Confluence Cloud?
If you have ever wanted to add a video from Youtube, or perhaps your own website for onboarding materials (and plenty of other reasons), I am here to let you know that you can embed videos directly into a page in Confluence Cloud and have it be playable for the viewer/reader right on the page, without having to open another window.
Follow the example instructions below to embed your video of choice into a Confluence Cloud page.
Here is an Example Instruction/Use Case for How to Embed Your Video of Choice:
Scenario: You want to embed a K15t Confluence instruction video from YouTube to help others on your team understand how to use Confluence Cloud once they have access.
Steps:
- Go to the YouTube website (videos on other websites can be used as well; this is strictly for the sake of an example).
- Search for the video you would like to embed in your Confluence Cloud page
- Once you have the video selected you would like to use, copy the URL for that video
- Go to the Confluence Cloud page you have chosen to embed the video to
- Ensure you have chosen to edit the page :)
- Once you are in edit mode, find the place on your chosen page where you would like to embed the video
- Paste the link in the appropriate place on the page
- Once pasted, you will have several options, including the following:
- Select one of the three options above (it does not matter which option, this is basically just a prerequisite)
- After you have selected one of the above, click the paste options bar again and the "embed" option will appear in the same small window as the other options (it is at the right end)
- Choose the "embed" option and your chosen video will be embedded directly into your page, and will be playable directly from the page, without having to open another window
- Once you have embedded your video, there are various other display options you can edit to get the video how you would like it on the page, such as the size, alignment, text wrap, link editing and ability to open on a new page if desired
- You can also go back to the URL, Inline and Card options at any time, if desired
Additional Notes:
- You can also do this with Confluence Whiteboards. You can select a whiteboard and embed it into a Confluence Cloud page by using the same instructions listed above.
- You can even embed a selected video into the Whiteboard, and then embed the Whiteboard into your Confluence page and play the video inside of the embedded whiteboard on your page. This is helpful if you have a Confluence Whiteboard with a lot of other information that you would like to keep with the video, to be embedded as whole together.
