Apply a custom global PDF in confluence

I would like to apply a custom global PDF to our internal site. Before I start this process is there anything I should know about how to apply a PDF. My hope is that I will be able to export our API documentation and it will be formatted correctly. I would love to hear what others have experienced using this feature.
