Are template variables shared for all pages based on the template?

I created a Confluence template to report our work. In the template I created two variables defining start and end dates to run multiple Jira searches on that period.

When I created a page, dates were requested nicely. But not when I tried to create a second report, no dates were asked for and the previously entered dates were reused. 

Is this the planned operation? If not, how can it be fixed?

If so, is there a way to have variables that have values for separate pages?
