Attachments did not show up in the browser regardless of which security policy we chose

We changed the default attachment download security policy to the insecure option as suggested in a previous resolved issue. But, the PDF attachment still did not show up in the browser. So, we switched to the third option to prompt our users to download the attachment; but, we still see a blank page in the browser.  So, it appears that none of the "Attachment download security policy" works. Please help!

Hi Shirly,

PDFs do show in my Confluence 6.9.x test instance. If you are seeing unexpected behavior please make sure the browser cache has been cleared as recommended on Where can I find Attachment Download Security Policy.

If you continue to experience an issue after clearing the browser cache, please let me know more:

  • What browser are you using?
  • What version of Confluence are you running?
  • How are the PDFs being added to the page? Do the PDFs fail to display when inserted on the page in edit mode via drag and drop, for example?
  • Do all users see the same results or can the author of the page view the PDF rendered on the page?
  • Is the PDF being inserted inside a macro? If so, which one?

Thanks,

Ann

Thanks, Ann! I still cannot see the PDF inline in my browser. So, here's the information:

  • What browser are you using?
    @Shirly: I am using FireFox.
  • What version of Confluence are you running?
@Shirly: I believe we are running version 6.1.1.
  • How are the PDFs being added to the page? Do the PDFs fail to display when inserted on the page in edit mode via drag and drop, for example?
@Shirly: We actually linked to the PDF when we edit the icon we added to the page. So, we have a PDF icon added to the page, then we link the icon through the "Edit Link" dialog by uploading the PDF file.
  • Do all users see the same results or can the author of the page view the PDF rendered on the page?
@Shirly: Actually, IE opens up the PDF, but not FireFox or Chrome.
  • Is the PDF being inserted inside a macro? If so, which one?
@Shirly:  We just uploaded the PDF through the "Edit Link" dialog -> Files, and then uploaded it.

Thanks!
Shirly

Hi Shirly,

Thanks for the update! It is interesting that IE renders the PDF but the other browsers do not. To help isolate the issue please try inserting a PDF onto a page without the PDF macro. Just create a page, then add the PDF via the + menu on the Editor toolbar:

Ideally, you could try with the same and different attachments to eliminate the content of the PDF itself as a factor.

Thanks,

Ann

So, we were able to render the PDFs if we refresh the browsers after we click the links.

Thanks!
