Blog Post Template Button or Convert to Blog Post

oliver_harrison July 18, 2025

Hi all,

Aim: I would ideally like to be able to create a blog post from template with a button (to be able to automatically add a tag and have a structure) however this does not exist (CONFSERVER-4174).

Current Workaround: Create a page from template (with tag and structure) and use an automation to convert to a blob post (Trigger: page creation that includes a label from the template)...however the confluence automation feature does not have the option to "convert to a blob post" (Link to Post

Why? I would like to move org announcements from email to confluence pages as they are more advantageous since you can have a linkable post that allows for easy sharing, confluence analytics and automated sharing via slack/email.

Can this feature be considered since we already have a template button? Or are there any other workarounds?

Thanks, Ollie

Hi @oliver_harrison ,

Would it be sufficient to use this workaround (pulled from closed cloud suggestion):

Today, if you are looking to use a template in your blog post, simply head to the editor to create a blank page, select a template you're interested in using and fill out your content. Now, you have the option to either publish the page directly as a blog or publish as a page now and then convert it to a blog later. Check out this article I wrote for more information and visuals on how to do this!

So, basically this:

publish-as-blog-post.gif

Might not be ideal, but it's not too bad either. 👀

Cheers,
Tobi

Hi Tobi,

Thanks so much for your input!

It’s a good suggestion - however, I don’t think it will quite meet our needs. We’re aiming for a single template button with minimal clicks, as this will be used by several people across the organisation who aren’t very familiar with Confluence. Since the three dots menu isn’t very obvious, it would be difficult to ensure everyone consistently finds and uses it. What we’re looking for is a simple flow:

1. Click the “Blog Post Template” button from the landing page

2. Write the blog post

3. Publish the blog post

Thanks again, Ollie
