Hey guys,
We had an issue with the browser spell check (Chrome, Firefox) not working in Confluence in the main text body of a document, for some time now.
We assumed this was just an issue with the version of Confluence we had installed, but just upgraded to the most recent version and the problem still remains.
For context, the spell check works in both the document title and also the title and body in the template creator, but not in the main body of a newly created document.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this so I can finally get our team bought into the solution and get away from Google Docs!!
Thanks in advance,
Mark
This needs to be fixed!
Hi Mark,
I've seen a few issues similar to this, such as:
It appears it can occur in large text boxes or if you have a larger amount of text.
I'm testing it on my own instance and it does appear to be working, so it may be the issue you're running into.
If so, you could try a 3rd party add-on, such as Spellproof in order to do your spellchecking.

Shannon

Hey Shannon,
Thanks for this! So, we resolved the issue today.
Prior to the upgrade, the browser spellcheck was not working at all, regardless of the volume of text. We installed Spellproof to counter this.
Upon upgrade, we noticed it was still not showing and assumed the problem still existed. However, after disabling Spellproof it came back!
We still notice that an app such as Grammarly, does seem to be able to affect the pages, unfortunately, but this one is still resolved.
Best,
Mark

Mark,
Thank you for letting me know that. If you have determined Spellproof is causing the issue, my recommendation would be to report this to the vendor so it can be addressed.
Regarding Grammarly, we have known this add-on not to work properly when combined with Confluence's collaborative editing tool. There is a suggestion below to support using Grammarly in newer versions of Confluence:
If you encounter any issues while using Grammarly then it is our recommendation to disable it while using Confluence.

Shannon
