If I create a global template, made some copies of this template to a page site, then make some edits/updates to the global template, will the copies that were put into the pages site get updated based on the recent edits/updates done on the global template?
In other words, will all updates on the global template be cascaded down to any page that came from the global template?

Templates, like pages, are not based on others. Your copies of the global template are independent of it, so if you change the global template, the other templates will not be affected.
A template is not a structural thing, it is, well, a template, as in the dictionary definition. A shape that you use to create a new object. The template has nothing to do with it after the object is created (it can't, it would be nonsense - imagine you have a template for creating a cog, and you create a new one that you then use in your new clock. Now you redesign the clock and change the template for its cogs. First, there's no mechanism for you to push your old cog through the new template, and second, if there were, your old clock would stop working because the cog is now the wrong shape).
So, no. This can't happen.
