Can I copy over home directory and database from a different Confluence version?

Alexander Perrin August 25, 2017

Hello

If I have a version of Confluence at version 6.2, would I be able to copy the database and home directory of another Confluence version (say 5.4) to the 6.2 version so that the 6.2 version has all the same information (i.e. spaces, users) and is a copy, but at a more recent version?

Or should I always make a copy at the same version and then upgrade? Also would it matter if the two instances were closer in version, say 5.4 and 5.4.3?

Any help appreciated!

No, you should make a copy and upgrade it.  Confluence 6 is very very different to 5, and you would miss files or make others redundent.

5.4 to 5.4.3 probably won't have a problem, but don't bet on it!  Upgrade...

what about confluence v6.15.5 to v7.13.0 or v7.13.1?  Would it work if I copy the same home directory?

No, do not do this, you need to make a copy and upgrade.
