Can I create a custom template for a space using the new editor?

When I create a new page using my custom template, I need to take the step to convert it to the new editor.  This is not always a smooth step (e.g. tables and layout).  I'd prefer to convert my existing template to the new editor or create a new template using the new editor.  Hopefully I'm not missing something obvious.  Any input appreciated.
