Can I develop a forge app that is later deployed on confluence datacenter?

The question is simple. I am using a cloud account to develop a plugin. I have started with creating a forge app.

But in the end, my plugin will have to work in Confluence Datacenter and I have started to wonder if that will actually be possible and if not, what development route I should take?

Short answer is no, Forge is only for Cloud. Data Center is using a different code base and has a separate SDK for app development.

The "plugin" frameworks for Cloud and DC (server) are totally different - you can't install a server app on Cloud and vice-versa.
