My employer uses confluence. I don't know what version, or how to find out the version.
I have a page that's grown too big to be a single page. I'd like to have a table of contents that:
I particularly want these links in the table of contents. I currently have a situation where you click on a header in the TOC, which goes to a section with text saying "click here to go to the page where this content was moved", which is in fact a link to the right place.
Actually, the header *itself* is also a link to the sub-page, but only as it appears in the main part of the topmost page - that property isn't preserved in the table of contents.
And I can't just create any of these pages in a correct state; I need to modify existing pages.
This wouldn't matter in a standard wiki, but my understanding is that with confluence, while you can *create* content using markup, you have to edit it in WYSIWYG mode. So advice like "use such and such macro but change..." probably won't work once the TOC is created - i.e. I won't be able to have "same as before, except ...."
And oh yeah - I'm really inept with GUIs, particularly if they involve icons rather than text. There may be a way to edit (i.e. change macro parameters affecting) the little box that shows "Table of Contents" plus an icon to its left, when the page is in edit mode. But all I can figure out how to do with it is to drag or possibly delete it.
Hi Noob,
I'd consider this a prime opportunity to start learning more about Confluence :)
Here are some macros you'll want to experiment with:
If you click on a macro while in the editor, you'll see available options pop up underneath it:
Click Edit to interact with the macro and change its settings:
You can always experiment with macros in your personal space before implementing them for your team. Good luck, we believe in you!
