Can I use Confluence Server on a linux box?

bfang711 April 17, 2017

I would like to setup a linux box to use as Confluence Server. Several questions here.

1. I uses centos 7 in the linux_x64. Can Confluence Server supported?

2. The linux box is running in a rack in the server room. It is a little bit old, and have very few display memory. (e.g. it is slow to open an X window for firefox.) I wonder after I install the Confluence Server, do I need to configure it using firefox, or it has its own GUI interface that can go trhough X windows.

3. If it is too slow, and I want to install it on another linux box. Should I ask Atlassian sales to modify the license file for me?

4. When I edit any files, is that possible to use Emacs/Vi to edit and check the result on a website?

5. any related documentation how linux server version would work?

thank you.

  1. Centos is one of the operating systems near, if not at, the top of the list for running Confluence on, and the first one most of us reach for when given a free choice!
  2. Confluence is a server, it needs no GUI on the server.  The client is (usually) a browser on another computer.  The basic install runs on a command line, and then you usually connect to the server with a browser to finish the rest of the installs
  3. You don't need to, you can change the server id in your my.atlassian account and generate a new licence
  4. Confluence is not a file server, you edit pages in Conflluence and they're part of "the website" automatically
  5. Start at https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/installing-confluence-on-linux-143556824.html

One more question to ask if you don't mind.

How do I do the backup for everything that I input in the Conflunce server? I prefer to backup into bitbucket like git or dropbox on a secured cloud site.

thank you.
