Can you export from cloud confluence and import into server version of confluence

I was attempting to import an xml.zip that was generated from a cloud version of confluence. The import into the server version of confluence failed. Any input is appreciated.

Yes, but it's not that simple, as your server version is unlikely to be able to pull in a later version of the data.  See https://confluence.atlassian.com/confcloud/migrating-from-confluence-cloud-to-confluence-server-724765578.html for the full procedure.
