Cannot Add To confluence-administrators

Quintin Holmberg December 18, 2013

I'm having trouble adding someone to confluence-administrators. When I try to do so through edit users, it tells me ...

Failed to modify group memberships. Check your server logs for more information.

When I try to do so through edit groups, it give no error message but does not add the user to the group.

This setup has always worked and nothing has changed recently.

After reading a couple articles, I've tinkered and tested with my AD settings but to no avail. I'm looking for someone to point me in my next direction. I don't know where the server logs are.

Here is what pertinent system inforation I can think of. Let me know if you need anything else.

  • Confluence version 5.2.3
  • Directory is Microsoft Active Directory (Read/Write)

Thanks.

Hi Quintin

We'll need to see the server logs to identify if there is an error on the confluence end or the AD side. The logs are located on the server filesystem at these two locations:

<confluence-install>/logs

<confluence-home>/logs

The confluence-home/logs contains a file atlassian-confluence.log. Search for that file if you're not sure of the location.
You may want to create a support ticket with Atlassian support to work through this as you'll not be able to attach a log file here, just copy/paste.

`updatedb` and `locate atlassian-confluence.log` for the win.
