Chrome & firefox users constant logout

We're using Confluence on this server only, using a reverse proxy, no context path.

When editing a page in Chrome or Firefox on the Mac, user is logged out as the page tries to autosave (at least, it appears to be related to autosave!).  Logging back in results in exactly the same issue - pop up saying connection lost, have to log in again.

Have tried:

• deleting all cookies, clearing caches
• different users
• checked NTP settings are OK
• Safari works fine, using the latest version of Chrome/Firefox
• Chrome, Firefox and Edge (Windows) work fine.

 Any suggestions?

it could be related to an issue with the session. Checks timeout in the server.xml file  setting https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-apache-with-mod_proxy-173669.html
