I want to add bold and/or coloured text and/or background highlighting to sections of a page that are in a monospaced font. How can I do this?
I saw one answer that mentioned CSS, but I don't do CSS.
I want to make some paragraphs appear in a monospaced font and be able to enbolden, colour, highlight, or italicise words in that monospaced paragraph.
Currently monospacing or preformatting text stops me from being able to further modify it.
Thanks.
Hi Donald,
I doubt that this will be possible without any CSS customization.
There is an quite old open issue for that: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-1179
Thanks Thomas, I used the work-around of cut-n-pasting from a code block found in one of the answers your link points to, but it is hit-n-miss with several steps and I and other members of my team are still looking for something easier...

The easiest way would be to create a user macro that formats text with a classed p tag (or inline style directive if you don't want to do CSS). Then the text inside the macro could be bolded, etc., but will appear in a monospaced font when displayed. Now the monospaced font you picked has to have bold and italic variants for this to work.

Ahhh, if only... Unfortunately I am new to Confluence. I have some HTML ability so I will take a first look at macros. Thanks :-)

Hi Donald,
I've written an article with an example for a user macro. It's another usecase, but maybe it helps you getting started with user macros: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/The-Admin-s-tale-User-Macro-filtering-a-Confluence-table/ba-p/459369

Just got Atlassian support to open https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-59278 for us. Please vote for it.
