Confluence Database Setup - Moving From H2

Thomas Murray May 30, 2019

I am trying to create a new instance of Confluence (following directions) to change my database to one hosted in PostgreSQL.  When I installed the second copy per the directions, I get stopped by the screen asking for license details.  I put in the key I was given, but it says it isn't valid.  I'm wondering if that's because it was associated with the old server ID of the initial demo install (which I then applied the license to before I knew I had to host the DB on a separate engine).  Any advice appreciated.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for contacting us.

The error shouldn't tell you that the key isn't valid if it's in use, so I think this might be a different issue. You can confirm first that your original instance is now offline? That will rule out your first concern.

The article below says you might get that error if the plugins cache is corrupt. Have you tried to clear this already?

To clear the cache, do the following:

  1. Shutdown Confluence
  2. Ensure the user running Confluence has full read/write privileges to the confluence-home directory.
  3. Remove the following directories(warning) This will remove the plugin cache files only and will not permanently remove any plugins. These directories will be recreated during the next Confluence startup.  However, some third-party plugins may store metadata in these directories, so we recommend creating a temporary backup of the directories.
    • <confluence-home>/bundled-plugins
    • <confluence-home>/plugins-cache
    • <confluence-home>/plugins-osgi-cache
    • <confluence-home>/plugins-temp
    • <confluence-home>/bundled-plugins_language
  4. Start Confluence

Have a look at How to clear Confluence plugins cache for more information on how to do that.

If that does not work, then I would recommend going to my.atlassian.com and re-obtain your key from there.

Let me know how that goes.

Regards,

Shannon

Shannon, thank you very much for your help.  As it turned out, the license key was not the correct one.  I went onto my licensing portal to verify after someone suggested it, and it was my fault.  Thanks again for your help, I truly appreciate your time and suggestions.

Thomas,

That's no problem at all! Glad it was helpful to you and that you're now up and running again.

Take care, and have a pleasant week.
