Confluence Images Missing / Not Displaying After Upgrade

We upgraded from Confluence v5.9.9 to v5.10.8 however now images are not displaying, eg:

• images in existing pages
• avatars / profile pictures

An image outline/box & a small black box with a white cross in it displays in place of the images. 

If I try to click on one of the images, the following displays:

• Ouch! We can't load the image.
• /download/attachments/52330596/date_01.jpg?version=1&modificationDate=1457497652860&api=v2

I'm just guessing but maybe the attachment storage configuration changed as a result of the update.

At least that would be reasonable if your attachments are still safed on the file system of your confluence server,

If that's the case, you can easily fix this problem by moving the attachments to the configured attachment location or change the attachment storage configurations. (see here)

Yup, Marcel is right.  Your attachments have come disconnected from their pages because Confluence is looking for them in the wrong place.  Use the instructions he's provided to fix the issue.
