Confluence Questions for both employees and customers

Rob Torio November 30, 2016

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Permissions

We would like to make Questions available to both employees and customers who use our Confluence wiki. Is there another away of setting permissions and isolating topics for our employees and topics for customers without having to tell all users to ask a question in a space in order to make a question 'private'?

Do you have means of categorising a User by two different Permission groups such as "Employee" vs "Customer"? or is everyone only granted permission on a user by user name basis

If so then assuming you have a Space with access to anyone holding "Customer" or "Employee" Permission group, set one question page with Page View Restriction to "Employee" Permission group - none of the Users holding Customer Permission will be able to see that page.

Then another question page with View Permissions to "Customer" Permissions Group plus the individual employee individuals nominated to provide answers, or the whole Employee group.

Hello Rodney, yes, our Wiki users are categorized by using wiki user groups so all our employees are in an Employee group while our customers are in a Customer group.

Access to spaces or pages in the Wiki are also set according to user groups. However, according to the Confluence Questions documentation:

Confluence organizes its content in spaces. Questions recognizes that some content should be available anywhere - so questions can be created outside spaces and organized just by topic, or asked inside a space, to inherit space permissions and keep things together.

Our concern is with internal- or for-employees-only questions that are posted outside a space by mistake, which exposes it to all users with access to Confluence Questions.
