Confluence System installed apps based macros in confluence cloud

umashri April 29, 2025

Since there are system installed apps in the confluence cloud version, so i wanted to know the macros used from these apps in the confluence data center, can they be migrated to confluence cloud using the confluence cloud migration assistant tool

Is there any data loss expected at the cloud version post migration.

Hello @umashri

just to expand on what was previously said

  • System macros tend to have their counterpart on Cloud. But certain implementations of those macros can't be replicated. Nesting macros (putting one macro inside the other) can be an issue.
  • Marketplace macros (apps)
    - direct replacement
    - no alternative
    - different app with the same functionality but different approach - basically you need to configure your setup again but you will get the same result

I would advise to identify the third party macros and test the alternatives in your Cloud environment to figure out the best approach. App vendors are usually very communicative and helpful as they do not want to lose business and can recommend the best migration/transition route.

My one more question is that, after migration into the cloud is there any post migration configuration needs to be done on the cloud site for the system installed apps

Hello @umashri ,

You may gather a list of those macro in doubt, and cross-check with the vendors and even a single of those macro from any pages post UAT migration via macro report. System macro will be migrated without any issue.

Ref to previous answers to same category question of yours  and how to gather report about macro - https://community.atlassian.com/forums/Confluence-questions/Re-A-list-of-Macros-which-are-available-at-the-cloud-site/qaq-p/3006633/comment-id/339918#M339918

Macro data loss would be macro non-functional post migration because that may not exists in cloud functionality (Ex. custom macro, app macro which doesn't have cloud version associated, etc).
