Confluence attachments on NAS

We are running Confluence 5.8 but for disaster recovery we want to store the attachments on a NAS but the application doesn't allow me to change the folder?  I there another way to do this?

Inside Confluence, annoyingly, no, the option to relocate attachments was removed many versions back.

There are workarounds at an OS level though.  If you're using a Unix-like type of operating system, you have two dead easy options - mount the NAS as a directory somewhere, then either replace the attachments directory with a symbolic link to the NAS directory to use, or (if the NAS directory is for nothing but confluence attachments) mount it directly over the confluence home/attachments directory.  Confluence doesn't need to know or care that the directory is physically elsewhere if you do either of those tricks.

You can't quite do those tricks on Windows so easily, but there were ways to do it last time I looked - there's a drive mapping utility, and a trick with a "subst" command on the command line.  But I've not really used Windows as a server since early XP days.
