Confluence groups

Paul Johnstone June 26, 2018

Hi All

Is there a way that Confluence Space can be Restricted by groups eg

You have one space for your customer that customer has 3 groups 1, 2 & 3. Group 1 only need to have access to the 1 group pages & Group 2 only need to have access to Group 2 & Group 3 only need access to Group 3.

Base on what I can see you can set Restrictions on the page level eg You have 3 groups 1, 2 & 3.

You apply restrications on each of the following pages;
Group 1 = can view & edit
Everyone = has no access

Group 2 = can view & edit
Everyone = has no access

Group 3 = can view & edit
Everyone = has no access

Each user is then provided access to one of the above groups, from USER MANAGEMENT.

Note that all users have been provide with the conflunce-user with provides them with the sign-in access to confluence.

But this set-up is not working base on that all Groups have access to each of the groups 1,2 & 3. Even know that they have not been assigned to the group page.

Hi Ann

Thanks for your feedback...
Just so we are on the same page I have att a screen shot below.
Note this set-up in in one space with 3 groups;

Group 1 - folio1 Team

Group 2 - folio1 Marketing Team

Group 3 - folio1 Project Manager

I have set-up the groups in soace settings & removed the Confluence-users Group which is only a global group for sign in. And set the the Restrictions on each page below eg

Group 1 =
everyone Has No access
Folio1 team Can view & edit

So only folio1 team can access this group right?

Hi Paul,

Assign space permissions  to the groups you wish to access the spaces, and on the space level remove the permissions for confluence-users from each space for which you wish everyone to have no access. Confluence-users group will still be able to log in and view content on spaces where they do have space permissions by virtue of their Global permissions.

Users with Global admin access will be able to add themselves to the permissions manually but will not be able to accidentally browse content. One exception is the confluence-administrators group as described in Confluence Groups for Administrators:

confluence-administrators: This is a group of 'super-users' who can access the Confluence administration screens ('administration console') and perform site-wide administration. Members of this group can also see all spaces and pages in the Confluence site. Any user who is a member of this group has site-wide administration powers, regardless of any other setting. The settings on the global permissions screen do not affect the powers allowed to members of this group.

Thanks,

Ann
