Confluence on demand (Hosted) Hyperlink Feature Roadmap

DaveS February 10, 2018

I have found by searching there is no easy way to control the link behavior for Confluence Hosted for articles created.

Almost any other hosted KB, Blog and such has the ability within the link options to select if the link should open in a new tab, window etc...

As it is now, the end user experience is taken out of confluence, which using the back key is not a really good solution and they will need to route back to confluence in a new session.

Is there a Road Map for this feature in the Hosted / On Demand version of Confluence?

This is the one feature that I am really disappointed in not seeing as a feature. At some point I saw building a Macro was the solution, but not sure if that will work in the Hosted Version and seems like a workaround vs a solution.

PS. A few people mention that opening a new tap for each link would not be a good idea due to the number of tabs opening, I think most people will see that and close the tabs when they are done reviewing the outside link, and much better experience than using the back key or Alt-click the back arrow to try to find your way back. Or worse having to navigate back to however you arrived at Confluence.

Hi Dave,

It's has been a discussion for years. Many issues have been created in the public issue tracker of Atlassian. The one you should be looking at is CONFSERVER-34088

I'd suggest you vote and watch the issue to receive updates when they are provided.

There are also some Marketplace apps available for this use case:

Both are free of charge but don't offer a Cloud version.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Maarten

Thanks Maarten for a great response and links to the two additional "add on's" since we run the on-demand hosted version we will not be able to use those but good to know.

I voted and now watching CONFSERVER-34088 - must not be an easy change for the hosted version I could only imagine. But it is such a common feature in other hosted platforms. But also see many that have a wide opinion of the feature.

Have a great day!

Dave

Hi Dave,

I wasn't completely sure if you were on Cloud or not. OnDemand is the old name and hosted is usually used for those of us that use Confluence Server.

Knowing you're on Cloud the Cloud specific issue would be more interesting to watch and vote: CONFCLOUD-34088

Best,

Maarten

Got it thanks for the clarification - will pop over to the Cloud Request and Vote and Watch.

Yes Cloud is what we run, not hosted ;)

Best,

Dave
