Hi,

We are already using Jira and Confluence, which is the best to use to monitor and report on completion of recurring tasks?

For example circulation of daily/weekly/monthly reports to stakeholders, I want to be able to:

  • Monitor completion
  • Assess if the task is being completed on time and easily report completion rates YTD
  • Assign to other team members to cover leave etc

Thanks

Hello there Colin!

As I understand, you need to select the most adequate tool for your environment.

Confluence is great for content sharing and collaboration on knowledge and information creation. There you can create pages, blogs, spaces and share everything with your organization and even more. However, the project management capabilities of Confluence fall short when compared to Jira.

Jira is specialized in task assignment, project creation and management. There you can track issue progress, assign them to other users, create and manage a project. You can check more information about Jira procedures here:

You can also create graphs and display information directly into Jira Dashboard:

However, sharing this information internally can be a challenge if you rely solely on Jira. Integrating Jira and Confluence has this purpose: You should be able to show and share data from jira in your Confluence instance so other users can access and study it. Creating pages for documentation about your projects and tasks in Confluence is pretty straightforward. You can even display graphs from Jira within Confluence:

Add formatting to your page

For short:

- Managing the projects, issues and creating the data could be done with Jira
- Creating reports, documentation and sharing the data could be done with Confluence
