The search function is not working properly anymore. Not all relevant articles are found. After googling a bit, I saw that I needed to contact support for rebuilding the index. However, as we are using the 'Confluence Free' version, we only have 'community support'. How can I make sure my search index is rebuilt?

Part of this is true. Reindexing is only available for server/datacenter version.

Now, you are using a confluence free version which Atlassian doesn't offer support. Workaround for this: Start a free trial standard plan then raise the support. After you are done with the support, you can cancel your standard subscription and go back to normal one.
