Hi there,
Our company need to upgrade Confluence from 6.3.1 to 7.1.5. Our admin
suggest to replicate our actual VM production server to another one.
So the actual server will become the stagging server. Backups and snapshot
will be taken. I know it's not the same step as described in the Confluence upgrade
documentation.
Is it possible to run both VM (stagging and production) server, so there is no
downtime? Of course we'll make sure that connectivity (different hostname and IP
addresses) works. I would like some suggestions, since it's the first time that I'm
doing this kind of work. On average, how much time is needed to do
a Confluence upgrade?
Here is our server spec :
- Windows Server 2012 R2 6.3
- JVM 1.8
- Microsoft SQL Server 12.00.5000 -> to upgrade 2017 before

Thank you
Hi @Metheavy
Welcome to Confluence!!
First and foremost, in any way, you need downtime since the confluence version you are upgrading from is 6.3
Next, thing is let the production env as is, don't touch it, take the backup, and first test the upgrade in test env.
Later once you have the documented steps on what you have done in test env, perform the upgrade in prod env with a rollback plan in place.
