Upgraded our dev Confluence site from 4.2.8 to 5.1.4. We use the Documentation theme as the default site theme. We have very basic customizations in the following files: login.vm, dashboard.vm, footer-content.vm, global.vmd. We use "Custom HTML" for the site branding in the header.

When we try to switch to the Default theme, in preparation for Atlassian merging the Documentation theme functionality into the Default theme, we come up against some major dashboard issues. The right hand side of the bar displays this:

#usernavbar() #printableicon() #pdficon() #feedicon()

And then, we can no longer navigate to Confluence admin functions and other functions that usually appear in the user navigation bar.

Additionally, regardless of using the Documentation or Default theme, the search box is displaying new and wrong behaviors not previously seen in v4.2.8:

1. When we type anything into the search box, the results display but cannot be dismissed with a click away from the drop-down. The only way to get the results to stop displaying as a drop-down over the page is to manually delete the contents of the search box.

2. If we pick a search result and navigate to its page, the text displays for the drop-downs on the right for Where/What/When are cut off in Firefox 22 and IE10, but not for Chrome or IE8.

I have removed customizations in the dashboard.vm and footer-content.vm, but it is not changing these behaviors. The only changes in the global.vmd are to expand the left and right sides 50% horizontally and to set showProfilePic to false. Removing these customizations also has no effect. I have also tried to remove custom HTML from within Confluence admin and modify the global layout, again with no effect to any of the aforementioned issues.

I filed a ticket with Atlassian, CSP-105133, and they suggested posting here to get assistance with why the user navigation bar will not work with the Default theme. They in turn filed CSP-105150 for the search issue mentioned above.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

You may want to check the following KB article, https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFKB/Custom+Decorator+Malfunctioning, in regard to the dashboard issues as it might be casued by the customizations.
