Hi,

I'm not really sure where to start, but I should warn you that I'm new to Atlassian products.

I was asked to help at a company that has not had an IT support person in a while and they have been getting by with the knowledge of the staff, however several things have been neglected, and one of them is Confluence, Jira, and Bitbucket. These are used by about 3 people, and were working fine until recently.

The versions we have here are old.

Confluence is currently on version 6.10.0

Jira is version 7.10.1

BitBucket is version 5.11.1

and PostgreSQL is version 10

I'm not sure what changed that broke the functionality as of yet, and I barely know where to start to figure that out.

Does the server require Java installed for these programs to run on it? if so what version of Java is compatible with these old versions (would Java 8, 9 or 10 work, or can I use Java 21)?

Server system logs says that confluence service terminated with the following service specific error: incorrect function ID 7024

bserv64.exe version 1.0.15.0 is giving me and error ID 1000 faulting module jvm.dll version 8.1.1720.11 which is the same error as elasticsearch-service-x64.exe

The rest of my questions are the following.

Do I need to get Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket and PostgreSQL working first before I can migrate them or can I migrate the data to a new server with installs of the latest versions and import and run without any problems?

If I have to first get Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket and PostgreSQL working, Do I also need to update them to new versions before I can migrate to another server with new versions? If so, what is the upgrade path that is safest for our data?

If you are wondering why I don't migrate to the new cloud, it's because we are not allowed to have any of our data stored in the cloud to remain in compliance with nist800-171 so I was hoping to update to the last versions of these programs that I can host locally to get us through the next few years on current projects while we figure out an alternative.

Thanks

Hi @Duncan Ferguson ,

To address your questions, I will provide answers based on the information you have provided.

  • Java compatibility: Jira , confluence and Bitbuckets are java bases applications so it is recommended to have Java installed for better performance and compatibility. Java 8 is compatible with your current versions of Confluence, Jira, and Bitbucket. For latest LTS versions Java 8, 11, 17 are compatible. Java 21 is not compatible with your current versions. Also ensure that the new server meets the minimum system requirements for each application. You can check the compatibility of system requirements on supported platform as follows:
    Jira Supported Platform
    Confluence Supported Platform
    Bitbucket Supported Platform

  • Migrating data: Yes, you can migrate the data to a new server with the latest versions of Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket, and PostgreSQL without any problems.

  • Upgrading to new versions and Path: Before migrating to a new server with the latest versions, you should update your current versions to the latest available versions, then migrate to a new server with the latest versions. This will help you avoid any compatibility issues and minimize the risk of data loss or corruption.

Also, if you feel my input help you please accept the answer.

Regards,
Bhushan
