Defining Confluence Usage Metrics

I am looking for information on what these (below) metrics mean as they can help me to determine how our organic adoption is going. I can make educated guesses but would prefer ‘Atlassian-certified’ definitions. I have not had luck locating them on the documentation but perhaps I missed them. Can anyone help?

Confluence Usage Metrics - In Confluence Admin>Administration>System Information there is a table called ‘Confluence Usage’. Below are the items listed there that I am NOT sure of (I've left off those that are obvious, such as 'Total Spaces).

I I have some educated guesses on some of these, such as that Content (Current Versions)’ may indcate all of the active ‘latest version’ pages, ‘Content (All Versions)’ may mean the total of all pages including previous versions, and ‘Search Index Size’ may be a total of all page version and all attachment versions (so one could subtract to find out how many of those are attachments)? Those are educated guesses but may not be accurate.

I hope someone can verify what all of these are. Thanks in advance for the help!

Content (All Versions)	(this one i sin the six figures for us)

Local Users	(this one is 3X our employee populatoin. how is that possible?)
Local Groups	(this number is 25% of our employee base which was surprisingly high)

Content (All Versions) - This is a count of all the versions of all your pages

Content (Current Versions) - This is a count of all your pages using only the most recent version

Local Users - The count of users in Confluence. If you are using an external directory such as LDAP/Active Directory to do authentication then you may need to adjust your external directory settings to only pull in real people. My hunch is you might have a bunch of service or non-people accounts that are being pulled in.

Local Groups - The count of Conflucen groups. The same is true for groups as for users. You could be pulling in all your LDAP/Active Directory groups as opposed to only the ones that control Confluence security.

Search Index Size - The size of the search index. An index is a way of speeding up searching. When you create/update a page the indexer will scan the pages and add content to the index. It is similar to the index of a book. It should only have index data for the current version of a page or attachment.

Hi Davin,

This is very helpful as it reinforces, although you did it in more elegant and complete fashion, what I thought the metric descriptions referred to. Since I would be using this information to provide feedback to executive levels in our company, just a couple items of clarification:

1.) Our search index size is a large number, approximately (it so happens) about double our 'Content (All Versions)'. I was hoping it would enable some backing in to attachment numbers. For example, if 'index size' was a measure of all active pages and active attachments, one could back into the total number of attachments by 'Search Index Size' - 'Content (All Versions)'. If it's not that and simply is using some method to add 'content' upon page updates (new or edits), then its value is nil for me. ;(

2.) Do you have a reference for where you found this information, or is it based on your experience? I'm asking because with a reference I have something to stand on in discussions with upper management folks (in case I'm asked for the source).
