Deleting space stuck after certain percentage?

While i was trying to delete confluence space, it stuck after certain percentage, especially when it gets the message "Deleting space itself" underneath completion percentage. And it is not progressing further. 

Literally stuck in this for the past few days.

Since the entities.xml is huge file of 2.3GB and contains ~9.3 million of lines, cumbersome to tinker that one with space key modification. 

Your help / answer / suggestion / advise much need of the hour and greatly appreciated.

I have a similar issue and found an article from Atlassian about delete a space on the database:

I tried it on a test instance and it worked. I am not totally satisfied with this solutions and also don't like the idea to work directly on the database but again in test it worked.

I also tried increase

* RAM,

* CPU and

* Database connection

- any of these changes helped. I also traced the JVM HeapSpace and thought it might be a slow harddrive but NOPE :-(

Maybe there is someone with a clever idea.
