I am looking at the tech pages for this issue and it all talks about using crowd for management. We aren't and the errors I am seeing are in the Atlassian-confluence log. Where do I find to fix the permissions for the groups using a base Confluence install without using crowd? I am unable to upload logs but this is what I am seeing.
ERROR [http-nio-8090-exec-8 url:/confluence/admin/users/adduserstogroup.action; user local.adm]

I don't have issues with a new user, just all of the old users of confluence. as mentioned above we did not install Crowd, and this is all internal users.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can tell you from the logs
Thank you.

Hi @Patricia Bascom ,
1. Below link has the solution for your problem.
Refer Internal directory section for solution.
2. Also go to Admin settings --> General configuration --> Security Configuration (https://<baseURL>/admin/viewsecurityconfig.action)
Make sure External user management is unchecked.
3. Reconfirm if confluence-administrators is an internal directory group or AD/Crowd synced group.
Thank you, The external user management is unchecked. I am waiting on my DB admin to run the queries. I had looked for the answer before reaching out but didn't see that link.
I'll let you know when we do the SQL checks

Rilwan,
Looks like it was a configuration issue between JIRA and Confluence. Looks to be fixed. thank you for the pointer for if this happens again with it fixed like it is now
