Tried the main page, got the normal front page, but when trying to login we get this error:
Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

Luckily since it was a VM I reverted to a snapshot taken just before the upgrade. This symptom is repeatable.

After you upgrade to 4.3, please stop Confluence and delete all contents inside <install folder>/work after that try starting Confluence again.

Hi Gerard,
It seems that you are using the confluence installer to upgrade the application. I recommend to upgrade confluence manually since the installer can be defective sometimes. The manual installation can be way more reliable.
if the issue persists, maybe you could attach the latest confluence logs to this question so we can check that.
