Excessive White Space Appearing Below Draw.io Diagrams in Confluence

A Sai Shree Anjan August 22, 2025

We are experiencing an issue with the Draw.io (diagrams.net) plugin in Confluence where diagrams display with a large empty/white space below the actual content.

This occurs even though the diagram itself only occupies the top portion of the canvas. It appears that the plugin is rendering additional blank canvas space in Confluence pages.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create or edit a Draw.io diagram in Confluence.

  2. Place content at the top of the diagram, leaving unused space below.

  3. Save and view the diagram in Confluence.

  4. Notice that a large white space is displayed below the actual diagram content.

Expected Behavior

The diagram should automatically resize or crop to fit the actual content, without leaving unnecessary blank space below.

Workarounds Tried

  • Disabled Page View in Draw.io editor → reduced but did not fully resolve the issue.

  • Tried Arrange → Autosize → still leaves extra space in some cases.

  • Checked for stray elements outside the canvas → none found.

  • Adjusted Page Setup options → no “Fit to Content” available in Confluence version.

Environment

  • Confluence (Cloud)

  • Draw.io plugin (v28.1.1)

Impact

The issue affects the readability and presentation of diagrams in Confluence documentation, as the large blank space makes pages look unprofessional and requires extra scrolling.

Hey @A Sai Shree Anjan ,

I've just tested this on our production site, but it seems that once you publish the changes in the draw.io editor, the Confluence page displays only the diagram and not the actual 'blank space' 👀

Now, I'm not actually using draw.io regularly (some of our teams do), so I cannot say much about it.

Recommendation would probably be to reach out to draw.io support via their official support channels (see here) as they will probably be able to help out with this issue you're experiencing.

Cheers,
Tobi
