Existing Child Page Edit Restrictions Not Inherited

I'm trying to restrict a parent page and all of the existing child pages under it from being edited and have noted that the child pages do not inherit the restrictions after the fact. 

They only inherit the restrictions if you create new child pages after you change the restriction settings on the parent page. Any workarounds?

This is expected, edit restrictions are not inherited down from parent to child pages. Please see When content is inheriting restrictions from parent content for more information.
