×We use expand boxes extensively across all our Confluence documents, and they’ve proven to be a very useful feature. However, we’re currently facing a couple of significant issues that we’d appreciate your help with:
Issue 1: Editing Pages
When a Confluence page is put into edit mode, all expand boxes automatically open by default. This makes it quite difficult to work efficiently.
Preferred Behavior: Expand boxes should remain collapsed when entering edit mode, or there should be an option to manage this behavior.
Issue 2: Search Functionality
Content within expand boxes is not searchable via global search unless the boxes are manually expanded first.
Preferred Behavior: Expand box content should be searchable globally, even when the boxes are collapsed, to improve search effectiveness.
Resolving these two issues would greatly enhance productivity and usability. Could you please assist us with this?
Hey there @Tofeeq ,
The Expand macro is indeed very helpful to format contents in pages and blog posts.
Regarding the first issue: being collapsed in View mode and expanded in Edit mode is the default behavior for this macro - having that said, there are a few Suggestions to allow this behavior to be adjusted:
Regarding the second issue: when you say "global search" I believe that means your web browser's search, correct? That happens due to contents not being rendered in the browser until the macro is expanded.
If possible, please open a Support ticket and our Team will be happy to assist with creating a new Suggestion.
Hope this helps! =]
Thanks @Thiago P _Atlassian Support_ for your response. Looks like both
are in gathering interest state since many years without any resolution 😟 if I read correctly.

Hi @Tofeeq ,
Correct, they are both in 'Gathering Interest'.
The oldest of them has an update from a PM mentioning the new feature was being considered, but that's been over 3 years without any updates.
For more details, make sure to review How we prioritize feature requests, bug fixes, and security fixes .
In short - not all Suggestions will be implemented, and even those with a large number of votes can be moved to 'Not Being Considered' if it does not align with the product strategy.
For this specific feature, it sounds like a great idea but not a top priority if compared to other more impactful features that have been worked on recently.
