HELP! Unable to Access Our Data

Swoboda_ Mike N September 7, 2021

To anyone who can help!

We attempted to do an upgrade of our system and now we are unable to access any of our documentation.  Is there anyway to view that documentation or pull it all for a DB so that we can at least view it?

@Swoboda_ Mike N Hi, there! I'm going to move this question to the Confluence section, so that you may get the best possible answers.

Hi @Swoboda_ Mike N,

welcome to the Atlassian Community.

Since you were talking about documentation, am I assuming correctly that your system is a Confluence instance?

If it is, there are several ways what you could do:

  • Search for the error message here in the Atlassian Community to see if you can solve the problem yourself and startup your Confluence again.
  • Create a support ticket with Atlassian and ask them for help
  • Find an Atlassian solution partner in your area who's happy to help you recovering your data.
  • Have a look at the DB scheme for Confluence to see what content you'd like to extract.

There are probably plenty of other ways, but these were my spontaneous ideas.

Cheers,
Matthias.

All we really need to do is get our data in a readable format.  If I can get all of our data in a readable format then we don't need help rebuilding the system.  Its the data that is the most important at this point.

This is what I got from support:

"You will need to renew the licenses. Someone from stvgb.org email domain should request the quote. However, even doing so, our technical support would not be able to assist. Upon review of the product, your account receives exclusive support from our online Atlassian Community.

On the Community, we have dedicated Atlassian Support staff and Community Leaders ready to help. Additionally:

  • We have thousands of questions and answers per month in our community, with community members who’ve been working with our products for 10 years or more!
  • As Community Support is the only channel available for our Free and Starter license users, we make sure to pay special attention to getting to these requests.

If you haven’t already, please create a post with this issue on the Community so a community member will help you soon."

I see. I'm not an expert in recovering Confluence instances. I think, my best bet would still be to get the instance running again - and then export the content. If you want to export it from the database, it won't be an easily readable format since it may contain dynamic data like macros.

If you want to go that way, you should describe in more detail what you mean with:

now we are unable to access any of our documentation

Here are some questions to get you started:

  • Can you start your Confluence instance?
  • Can you access your Confluence instance via the browser?
  • Is there any error message in the browser you can share?
  • Is there any error message in the logs?
  • When you attempted the upgrade of your Confluence instance did you get any error message?
  • What version of Confluence where you initially at? To which version were you trying to upgrade?

In general, describe your problem in as much detail as you can - then one of the experts here might be able to spot some problem or better a solution.

I should add this is completely new to me, this was setup by someone who is no longer with the company.
