Has anyone invoked the REST api (not to other Atlassian products) from a confluence page to populate that page with data?

We have a Websphere Web Service Registry Repository (WSRR) that I would like to populate service information/metadata into a confluence page.  My first thoughts are to do this with the scripting plugin and use groovy to send the GET request.  Just wanted to see if there where other options that folks used for this type of scenario.
