Hi @Madavl34 ,

What do you mean that your Excel table object is not editable for users? Is it not a plain table but a generated table that uses the Excel macro and an attachment?

If this is the case, we can suggest our app - Table Filter and Charts for Confluence. It provides the Table from CSV macro - you'll be able to connect your Google Spreadsheet via this macro and the table will be automatically generated on the Confluence page (you and your colleagues without Confluence accounts make changes to this spreadsheet and the Confluence table will be automatically updated at once).

Further you'll be able to filter this table, aggregate and visualize data and perform other Excel operations right in Confluence.

If everybody in your company has access to Confluence, then we suggest performing all the required operations with tables right in Confluence without switching to Excel: we also provide such advanced features as calculations in tables, conditional formatting, etc.

If you are interested in a live demo from our team, please, book a suitable time slot here

What concerns the dropdown menu, we can suggest another app from our team - Handy Macros for Confluence.

Its Handy Status macro allows you to set up pre-defined sets of statuses or options for data consistency across your Confluence instance.

I created a table on a Confluence space but it is not editable. I want people to add info inside.

A table on the page - not space, we can say that spaces are like folders - they contain and organize pages.

So, if you want other people to edit your page, you should check both space permissions and page restrictions.

I can edit the page as I am the admin. I did the table with columns and rows. I want people to be able to populate the rows like users, not to edit the page, only to be able to add info in the table I have created. Permissions are fine for all of them. They can add info if open text space but If I add a table instead, no data can be added inside of it, not even by me.

I'll try to repeat your case:

  • you have a page with a table - plain manually created Confluence table (some rows/some columns)
  • your colleagues can add their info into this table - they go to this page and add/change some text/dates/statuses inside the table
  • but if they (and you) try to paste another table into the table cell then nothing happens? Is the phrase "If I add a table instead, no data can be added inside of it, not even by me" about this case?
  • If it is, it may happen for Confluence Cloud - its new editor doesn't support table nesting.

If your case is to populate table cells from the page view mode (without entering the page edit mode and publishing the page), then you also should browse the Marketplace for some apps - there is no such feature out-of-the-box.

  • your colleagues can NOT add their info into this table - they go to this page and add/change some text/dates/statuses inside the table

this is my case, yes, this is what I need but users cannot do that now.

Then it seems like a bug - if your colleagues see the Edit button and enter the page edit mode successfully, they should be able to change all the page content (including text, macros and tables).

Standard manually created Confluence tables don't have any special permissions or restrictions - they are just a regular part of a page.

Of course, there are several ways to prevent tables/columns from editing, but it is not out-of-the-box and you need specific apps to achieve this.

Try to create a new table on the separate page and see how it goes.

I did try it, still no success. So if I am in the editing mode I can do whatever I want. But if I want to add info after saving the updates/changes - as any normal user - just to populate the fields on the page, it is not possible.

But any normal user should also go to the Edit mode and only then update the table. As I've written before, you can't edit tables from the page View mode without additional apps.

If you want your users to update only the table without other text/macros, you should create two pages:

  • page 1 contains only the table wrapped into the Excerpt macro, users go to the Edit mode and update the table
  • page 2 contains additional text/macros and the reused table from the page 1 (via the Excerpt Include macro)
  • page 2 should be opened only for viewing, not for editing! So, the additional text/macros won't be spoiled/deleted by other users
