How Can I Set A Group Permission to All Space?

Rabia S_

Hi everyone!

I have to Confluence Server (version 7.15.2).

I want to set a Read-Only permission for a group to all spaces. I tried to set Default Permission. But if I create a new space then this permission setting is active.

But I want to add old and new spaces.

How can I do?

Thanks.

Hi Rabia,

To apply this permission setting to both old and new spaces, you'll need to use a combination of Space Permissions and a global permission.

Here's how you can achieve this:

  • Set Space Permissions for Existing Spaces: a. Go to each existing space for which you want to grant the Read-Only permission to a specific group. b. In the space, click on the Settings (gear) icon in the lower-left corner and select "Space Permissions." c. Add the desired group to the "View" permission with "Can View" or "Can Use" access depending on your requirements. d. Save the changes.
  • Set Default Space Permission (Global Permission): a. Go to "Confluence Administration" (you need admin privileges). b. Under "Space Permissions," click on "Global Permissions." c. In the "Default Space Permissions" section, grant the desired group the "Can Use" permission. d. Save the changes.

By setting the "Can Use" permission as the default space permission, any new space that is created will automatically inherit this permission, and thus the Read-Only access will be granted to the specified group.

With this approach, the existing spaces will have their individual permissions set, and any new space will automatically inherit the Read-Only permission due to the default space permission you've set.

Please note that it's essential to be cautious while modifying space and global permissions, as they can affect the access control of your Confluence instance. Always ensure you have the appropriate permissions and thoroughly test the changes before implementing them in a production environment.
