Secondly, if I were to spin up a new Confluence instance and then export these templates, would they work on older Confluence versions?

Hi Tom,

The templates gallery is set up for use with Confluence Cloud, using the new Cloud editor. Server uses what we're now referring to as the Legacy editor (in Cloud terms), so the new gallery doesn't translate directly for Server use.

You could open template pages from the gallery in a Cloud Free site, then copy/paste the contents into a self-generated Server space template. I gave this a try in a test instance myself. While the formatting didn't copy over with 100% accuracy, I was able to get a nice copy template in Server with just a couple minutes of cleanup work.

Many of the templates in the Cloud gallery also ship with Server however. If for some reason you don't see some of these templates in your Cloud instance, you could give the Atlassian Team Playbook template bundle a try. Outside that, you can copy templates from the Cloud editor to Server with just a couple minutes of formatting work.
