I looked at the Audit report and it does not tell me which Admin added Confluence users. This addition has put us over our license count and I need to find out who did that. Can you assist?

Hi @Laurie Whelan

Welcome to Atlassian community!

I understand that the name of the user is not displayed, instead system is reflected when a user is added to the site.

The name of the user who did the action only appears in some cases. Depending on the nature of the log, it will be displayed that the System did it. See the difference:

  • Changes related to the Instance management (such as adding/deactivating a user, group creation/deletion, etc) are logged as performed by System. By accessing the Audit Log in your instance, the logs fit these criteria.
  • When it comes to logs related to changes on Confluence (change on permissions, template updates, Space deletion, etc), they indicate the user that performed the action.

I would like to highlight that the changes that show up as made by System are usually the ones done by site admins. In this case, you can contact the other admins to have a better understanding of why a user was added to a group. In the audit log, you can find the names of the users who were added/removed by clicking on Show more. Also, you can see the affected group as well.

Regarding the administrative logs, we understand that a feature like this could improve the value we deliver in our products, we have tracked it under a Suggestion ticket so our developers and product managers can consider the implementation of this function on a future product version, as you can see on the link below:

Additional Administrative features for Audit log

Please be sure to watch it, and vote on it, so that you're notified if this is implemented in a future release.

For your reference, you can find our policy on how we prioritize feature and improvement requests at this page.

You can also add a comment to the feature request to explain your specific use-case (e.g. why is this feature important in your organization, what is not achievable with the current options) to the product managers and the development team.

I have also added a link to this case so that the developers can reference it if necessary.

Hope this helps!

Best Regards,
