How do I create a link in a Confluence document, to another page/ attachment?

George Beckett November 27, 2019

In the new editing interface, the Create Link toolbar is greatly simplified compared to the previous version. It only shows what it thinks are recently visited pages, plus provides a text field in which to enter a search term. However:

- Rarely do I get the link I want when using the search field. For example, even if I type the full filename of an attachment to the current page, the pop-up finds no suitable links.

- Rarely does the pop-up actually show the most recent pages I have visited.

Is this a bug in the current UI? If so, how do I work around it?

Thanks in advance,

Hi George,

Yes, I've noticed the same thing as you when trying to link in the new Editor.

I do think there are some kinks they are still working out...

I'm following 2 issues related to linking:

Link to an undefined page (a page that doesn't exist yet): https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-67129

Ability to link text to an attachment in editor: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-65302

The workaround given here:

By using the Attachments macro you can obtain the URL of an attachment, and link text to that by pasting the link into the Link Macro.

As far as the new Editor goes, I recommend watching issues to see when features/bugs are progressing on the roadmap.

Hope this helps in the meantime!

Carolyn
