How do links from Confluence to external documentation (on local network) work?

My company has a limit on file sizes of documents that can be stored in Confluence.  This limits us to using links out to larger document files that exist on our local network.  We are using the insert link function to browse and insert the file. When the document that is being linked to is updated and saved on the local network with no change to the name of the document, should the inserted link (in Confluence) take the user to the newest saved version?

I ask because I'm seeing behavior that indicates that somehow the link is taking the user to the original documentation and NOT to the latest saved version.

Hi Sabrina,

Confluence linking functionality should work the same as linking from any other site.  As long as the link and the file name stay the same, it should link them to the newest saved version.  There's a chance that the original version is cached for the user that already opened the file.  Can you ask a user that hasn't opened it yet to click on the link and see if it takes them to the newest saved version?
