Am following: CONFSERVER-38240
and it's open since 2015 with 58 votes.
Should I keep my hopes on with this, or just drop it off?
There's no critical mass of votes, they're not for that. They're for judging the number of people who are interested alongside all the other factors Atlassian look at. They often deal with low-vote items simply because they're easily do-able alongside other things that they're doing. They often appear to ignore high-vote items because they're just not important to the roadmap.
Recently, they've added a UIS thing to issues which gives you a better idea of what they are looking at - it's calculated from the type of issues (verified bugs rise up above nice-to-haves), votes, age and several other factors. https://jira.atlassian.com/issues/?jql=UIS%20is%20not%20empty%20and%20resolution%20is%20empty%20order%20by%20uis%20desc is the current list (although it might be more informative to limit it to one product and think about excluding some of the status). A vote will bump the UIS up
So basically it's up to them not the voters, jeje. Ok
Thanks for the info Nic!

No.
Voters are part of the calculation. Just not all of it.
From the utterly idiotic requests I've seen get votes, I'm very glad that it's not just the voters who have a say. Frankly, Atlassian would have disappeared a decade ago if they'd just blindly done what the users said they wanted.
