At the company where I'm consulting, besides Jira, their main "scheduler" is Google Sheets. So, they have created makeshift schedules in Sheets. I then create tables in Confluence to reflect status of each project.
Needless to say, this process is prone to much error. So, what I've been asked to do is embed the Sheet in the Confluence page so it's dynamic - update the Sheet, it gets reflected in Confluence. However, they don't want just sheet that looks like the image below. They want the actual contents of the spreadsheet to display which I understand to be embedding.
And yet try though I might, I cannot embed anything. I always get what you see here. I've tried copying, sharing the link, etc. I think that once or twice by some miracle (maybe testing on my own machine), I've been able to hover over the URL and get choices, none of which were embed. (Inline, card, etc.)
The online solutions I've read indicate you need a Google macro (they do not have one) or first publish to the web (private, so impossible). And yet as I look around their Confluence pages, I see embedded timelines. So, I don't know how to do this or even if it's really doable at all in this environment. What am I missing?
Totally get the frustration! What you’re describing usually comes down to the exact embed method + permissions. Perhaps that would work: migrate those tracker tables into Confluence Databases so you can stop fighting spreadsheets.
Solution 1 - Third-party apps
Solution 2 - Migrate to Confluence Databases (recommended long-term)
Maybe there are other possible solutions, but I really enjoy Databases.
Hi @Jim Stewart ,
The Table Filter, Charts & Spreadsheets for Confluence app kindly mentioned by @Julie Kremp is ours and here is a guide for you how to connect the Table from CSV macro and Google Sheets.
Another option may be to export/import your data once and continue to perform all the operations right within Confluence - using the Table Spreadsheet macro.
Please book a live call with our team to discuss the use case closely.

@Jim Stewart According to this page (https://support.atlassian.com/confluence/kb/deprecation-of-google-drive-and-one-drive-macros/), there should be an embed option on the smart link.
I know that I have had times recently where I needed to click in the link settings bar a few times (maybe select Edit link, do nothing, and save or select another a different link option) and then the embed option would suddenly appear.
I'm going to tag @Kristian Klima here, as I believe he has posted about achieving this with an iframe macro and may be able to assist.

One possibility might be to use a so called "iframe" macro.
