How to find the allowed attachment types in Confluence?

Jay April 30, 2019

Can someone please let me know where I can find the attachment types that are allowed within Confluence? I've ween through the confluence documentation, on the general admin configuration screen for Confluence and looked through answers on the community and still can't find a direct answer.

I just want to know which types are allowed to upload documents to a confluence page and how can I change those attachment types that are allowed to my Confluence environment?

Hello Jeremy,

Welcome to Community. It's great to have you!

I'm happy to elaborate on this for you.

Confluence allows you to attach most file types, but you cannot attach a folder of files (including folders created by applications like Keynote - you'll need to export your presentation to zip or other format).

Although just about any file type can be attached to a page, not all file types can be displayed on or embedded in a page. See Display Files and Images to find out more.

The maximum file size you can upload to Confluence is set by your system administrator. By default it is 10mb, but your administrator may have increased or reduced this limit.

From the linked documentation above, under Which files can be previewed?, you can find the following chart:

In summary, you're allowed to attach nearly any filetype, with the exception of a folder of files (unless compressed, as a .zip, for example). Only certain types will be previewed according to the chart above.

Is there a particular filetype you're finding you're not able to attach? It's not possible to change these settings but many 3rd party add-ons in Marketplace can provide you additional functionality.

I hope this helps! Do let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,

Shannon
