How to implement rest table from aui lib using function instead of url ?

Hello,

Me and my team are trying to create a macro which will create a table on a specific page using restful table from AUI lib (https://aui.atlassian.com/aui/latest/docs/restful-table.html).

The rest table has 3 required configuration and one of them is the resource which is used to populate the table.

there is two way to implement it , by a rest url or a function that returns a collection of all table entities.

We want to use a function but are very confused about how to implement it. We do not find any example on how it should be implemented. We have tried to retrun a json, array etc but none of them is working

If someone can guide us getting more information about it it would be very appreciated
